Snow Sparkles

April 1st was sunny and cold.  I was able to walk on the snow without snowshoes and not sink also, known as post holing. Ever so slowly the snow is melting.  I am ready for a change but, I still enjoyed the beauty.  The snow was sparkling like glitter.  It is hard to capture the refracting rainbow light with still photography so today I give you a link to a very short YouTube video of a moment in my back field.

A "day" at the beach~~~

Last Friday was the Vernal Equinox....but spring is still in question here in Maine!  Since the day was warmer than bitter cold I decided to head to the coast for a beach moment.  I craved walking on thawed ground.  The little town beach in Searsport is one of my favorite nearby bits of coast. I had the beach all to my Self...go figure!  The steps down to the beach were still snow filled (those are handrails in the photo...not ankle rails!).  I had come prepared with my handy neoprene muck boots,  so no worries.

I meandered for a time and enjoyed the sound of waves, wind, & seagulls.
It was good to feel salt air on my face.
I hadn't been to coast since last fall.

Of course, I was looking for sea glass. I found some nice pieces.  This purple pieces was my most exciting find!  The tide was very low on account of the New Moon.  I walked on parts of the beach I had never been before.  I would have stayed longer but I admit to getting quite cold.  Chilled to the bone but refreshed by the sea.

Here is poem I love by the beloved, Pablo Neruda

The Sea
I need the sea because it teaches me.
I don’t know if I learn music or awareness,
if it’s a single wave or its vast existence,
or only its harsh voice or its shining
suggestion of fishes and ships.
The fact is that until I fall asleep,
in some magnetic way I move in
the university of the waves.
It’s not simply the shells crunched
as if some shivering planet
were giving signs of its gradual death;
no, I reconstruct the day out of a fragment,
the stalactite from the sliver of salt,
and the great god out of a spoonful.
What it taught me before, I keep. It’s air
ceaseless wind, water and sand.
It seems a small thing for a young man,
to have come here to live with his own fire;
nevertheless, the pulse that rose
and fell in its abyss,
the crackling of the blue cold,
the gradual wearing away of the star,
the soft unfolding of the wave
squandering snow with its foam,
the quiet power out there, sure
as a stone shrine in the depths,
replaced my world in which were growing
stubborn sorrow, gathering oblivion,
and my life changed suddenly:
as I became part of its pure movement.

First Day of Spring ~ or ~ Vern Day

This is how the first day of Spring looks here in Freedom.  Not exactly springy!  Also, not atypical of a Maine Vernal Equinox.  Even though the weather is "gloomy" (I don't really mind ~ good light for Etsy photography, snow melting rain, 40 degrees outside!)  there is plenty to celebrate around here.  First, I seem to, finally, be over a lingering cold (that is why the blog has been quiet).  It was a good morning to sleep in, I needed the rest!  Also, today is when we celebrate Vern's Birthday!  He can into our lives 2 years ago on the Vernal Equinox, hence the name Vern.  Our best estimation is that he is now 4.

Vern's favorite perch on the back of the couch...comfy & easy access for pats

I am eating a carrot, they are both begging...Runa got some carrot...Vern got some wet food!
Happy Birthday Vern

Runa had her real birthday on Monday, 5 years old!  I was sick so didn't blog but she got a walk and raw fish...her favorite.  Today she is languishing at my feet.  I have let her out a few times but the conditions are not pleasant, even for an Icelandic Sheepdog. Not good walking, snowshoeing, or being outside weather....

View from my skylight today.

There are signs of spring around here.  My little indoor garden with excellent tomato germination!  They are all leaning towards the sun.  They seem to give off an aura of yearning.  Or are they looking out the window and can't believe what they see?  What kind of world have they been born into?

Longing for Spring

O how I long again to see
The vernal face of Spring,
And hear, from every budding tree,
Some little warbler sing.

I long to see the forest trees
Clothed in their robes of green,
And swaying in the gentle breeze
Display their glossy sheen.

I long to wander by the stream
Where sport the speckled trout,
Or in the noontide's genial gleam
See lambkins frisk about.

I long to see the sons of toil
Perform the noble deed
Of breaking up the stubborn soil
To plant the fertile seed.

I long to see the meadows green
Bespread with flowerets gay--
I long to have a change of scene
From winter cold and gray.

It won't be long--a little while
And snows will disappear
And Flora with her winning smile
Shall find a welcome here.

I haven't forgotten....

Helloooooo...Yes I am still here and I still plan to blog...but it has been just so very, very, very nice outside.  I have been distracted.  So much is happening...like my son going to prom with a big case of senioritis...getting ready for graduation...but there is also the "usual" busy-ness and beauty to divert my attention.  For one wild cherry blossoms...so fragrant and pretty!

Or plants not so baby-ish anymore that need my attention as we wait for warmer weather.

New little plant pea babies that make me squeal with delight!

And finally a baby carrot has emerged!

Everything is greening up nicely...little oats sprouting as cover crop!

There are dew drops on lupines to ponder and sip!

I nearly missed the wild trillium bloom...yikes!

Runa and I still have our daily walks....

...because there are interesting patches of sun to bask in!

So, please BE patient and "forget me not"!

~~~GRATITUDE~~~ !!!
We are having a weekend of GLORIOUS {overdue} weather!
So I have been outside as much as possible working and enjoying!
I have to say I am a bit jealous of Runa & the Ducks.
They are swimming!
I put my hands in the water yesterday...still pretty nippy!
The Turtle Watch Continues....
So today I am GRATEFUL for TURTLES!
It is toooooooo nice outside.....I have got to GO!
Need to make the best of today...blackflies are bumping....but not biting...
Here is a page from MY earliest book...more on that later...
Hope you all are as HAPPY as I am today!
It is my intention, each Sunday, to share something that fills me with Gratitude.
I write ~~~Gratitude~~~ with the wavy lines to represent the gratitude ENERGY~~~~~!
I hope you will join me and share your gratitude moments.
Earth Day is Every Day.....!
This was THIS morning...FROST!  I must say I am ready for some warmth, NOW!  I am sure my flower seeds, that warned...plant after all danger of frost, wish for warmth too.  Well, frost isn't really dangerous...it is beautiful...but it is nearly May...feels like March.....so a March Poem
Here are a few more photos and a Wendell Berry Poem I love....
Return to Earth
Through the weeks of deep snow
we walked above the ground
on fallen sky, as though we did
not come of root and leaf, as though
we had only air and weather
for our difficult home.
                                      But now
as March warms, and the rivulets
run like birdsong on the slopes,
and the branches of light sing in the hills,
slowly we return to earth.
Right Brain Treehouse Society ~ Part 2
Ok~~~Today is rainy and gray again...so I will continue the Monday story of "MY" treehouse.  I came up with the idea of the Right Brain Treehouse Society when I was looking at my SELF and my struggles with creativity.  Folks, from the outside looking in, see me as a very creative person.  My Reiki-ness has the appearance of being very Right Brainy.  But on the inside I tussle with my linear, organized, pragmatic self and my desire to be wildly creative.  Also, I have curious physical afflictions 1st, many years ago, I hurt my left shoulder, then I broke my left ankle, developed left hip bursitis, and this winter I had to have oral surgery on a left tooth...for me these are pointers towards Right Brain suppression!  (right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa).  So the treehouse is a place for me to practice my right brain and strive towards balance...PS~~I have all my "afflictions" in a healed stasis ~~~they only flare up when I am not paying attention.
So here is the tour of the tweeted-out, cleaned up, ready for creative juice  incubation treehouse!
