Awesome Alliums

We have been have some amazingly wonderful weather!  This means my time has been outside...planting, planting, planting!  Much has been neglected that is inside the house...blogging for one...finally took care of the science project in my kitchen sink and got the recyclables washed.  The "getting behind" used to really bother me...but with age a certain sort of "slow and steady wins the race" mentality has come into being for me.  I realize that my list will be done...well...when I am, so I just keep on keeping on!

During this planting profusion I managed to put about 200+ onions and 75+ leeks into the ground.  Seems like a lot, I know.  Sometimes I become a bit obsessive.  The onions were there, plus the space, plus the great conditions, plus my body cooperated with comfort, equaled a big patch of alliums!  A friend once coined how I can be about my obsessions as, "repetitive devotional tasks".  Guess onion planting fits that definition!

Planting onions is wonderful.  Baby onions have their own special scent...new onion.  Sort of like how puppies or babies have a special smell.  Or like a new car (we never had new cars growing up so the first time I smelled a new car it was the scent of new Barbie Doll for me...)  Maybe it is that wonderful aroma that keeps me planting...I don't know.

It amazes me that these spindly things will be great big, fat, delicious, onions.  Experience tells me that this will be true.  I must admit that planting onion seedlings feel more like an act of faith.  They seem so weak against the elements.  Natures strength astounds me~~~always!

Well I have to fly~~~daylight is burning on another beautiful day!

Clean Sheet Night

One of my high and holy holidays is Clean Sheet Night.  Who doesn't enjoy the feeling and smell of fresh clean sheets, only made better when they are hung outside in the open air.  I make a point of celebrating clean sheet night by being heightened in my awareness to all my senses.  Clean Sheet Night is a practice of presence.  I have even been know to take a small glass of wine to bed to toast the loveliness of the occasion.  It is JoY in the everyday I seek. Clean Sheets are the quintessential everyday joy!

But clean sheet sensing has a deeper purpose, as well for me.  Like so many folks once my head hits the pillow my mind starts to turn.  The squirrel cage brain or hamster wheel mentality kicks in.  Without the distractions of waking life the  mind can have a field day......and much needed sleep is impeded.  So when these times happen (all too often) one of my magic tricks is to become completely aware of my sheets.  I put all of my awareness towards sheet sensing until I drift off to dreamland.  When sad or troubled thoughts arise I imagine my sheets enveloping me in a restful, loving hug...sheet angels! :)

Of course, my more "present" animal companions have no need for such sleep aids.
In the moment...TIRED = Sleep!
Though I think Vern would "prefer" not to have Runa's tail in his face but, that doesn't seem to interrupt his rest.

GOOD NIGHT

As the night gets deep and dark,
Let your worries fade,
Let this night change your life,
And make it a better place.

Give you new hope,
And the love you need,
Let stars shower you with joys,
And the moon bless you with peace.

Spring Winds ~~~~~~~~

Today WE let the spring wind blow our list of things to do away!

We both had BIG plans!  We have been working hard outside getting all kinds of stuff done.  But....there is a whole week ++++ of nice weather ahead so took the day off.  We call these chairs the non-motivational-chairs.

Chill-laxing!

Confession: I did go out at sunset and plant some peas, lettuce, & flowers.
Plus brought in the laundry and moved a wheelbarrow of dirt...but it was after a nap ;)
